Da der „Run“ auf exotische Früchte in der Nachkriegszeit besonders hoch war, packte der Sizilianer Domenico di Paola 1956 die Gelegenheit beim Schopfe und gründete ein Fruchthandelsunternehmen. Hauptsächlich Orangen, Zitronen sowie auch Trauben importiert das auch Bio-zertifizierte Familienunternehmen seitdem auf direktem Wege ohne Zwischenlagerung nach Deutschland und angrenzende Länder. Bei der Produktion (teilweise), Verpackung und Etikettierung hat Domenico di Paola ebenfalls die volle Kontrolle. Neben den Südfrüchten, die ausschließlich von Anbaugebieten im Südosten Siziliens stammen, vertreibt der Großhändler Domenico die Paola, mittlerweile unter der Führung von Agatino Lombardo, auch Tomaten, Zucchini und andere Gemüsesorten.
